Mango lassi

The Famous indian drink. It is not summer without mangoes. And mango lassi is perfect indian summer drink. Mangoes are one of my favorites only next to ice apple (aka nungu) and jackfruit (aka pazhapazham). Uhh!! How much I miss indian mango varities.

Mango Lassi

Mango Lassi

Mango lassi is one of the most easiest desserts you can make for your surprise guest or for that last minute potluck. What I love about mango lassi is that your pallet will be satisfied with all of the different tastes. All you need is some fully riped mangoes or mango pulp from canned will work too. But trust me fresh mangoes and homemade yogurt (curd) will make you high on mangoes throughout summer.

Mango lassi recipe

Ingredients

Mango - 1 peeled chopped and diced

Yogurt (curd) - 1/2 cup

Sugar - 3 tbsp or to taste

Rose water - 1 tsp (optional)

Malai - 1 tsp (optional)

Crushed Nuts - cashew, pistachio(Optional)

Cardamom powder - a dash (Optional)

Direction

In a blender, add yogurt, sugar and mango pieces and blend together. Add Ice cubes or cold water if you like thin lassi. If your yogurt is more sour, add in milk to adjust the taste.

Flavoring:

As far as flavoring goes, you can get creative here. I love cardamom in mango lassi. But it is not uncommon to add rosewater and khewra water to this.

Toppings:

The garnish for this can be as simple as adding mango pieces or without any guilt go ahead and add that tablespoon of malai (cream) with some crushed nuts. Also with a little umbrella like my daughter suggested while writing this :)

Notes:

  • If you don’t have access to fresh mangoes, mango pulp or canned mango should work.

  • Adjust sugar quantity based on the sweetness in mangoes and sourness in yogurt (curd)

But trust me the homemade yogurt with fresh mangoes will make all the difference.

Enjoy and happy chilling!!
