Multigrain Phulka (Indian Flat bread)

When i was in India i once used store bought multigrain atta to make Phulkas. But i wanted to try multigrain phulka in my own compositions and of course i couldn't use all the multigrains, i just used whole wheat flour, whole oats flour, and millet flour. Only these three where available at home when i decided to make them :) But phulkas really fluffed up nicely and they were very soft too.

Preparation time: 10 mins

Waiting time: 30 mins (Better to let the dough sit on the counter for sometime)

Cooking time : 10 mins

Serves - 10 phulkas

INGREDIENTS:

  • Whole wheat flour - 1/2 cup
  • Finger millet flour - 1/4 cup
  • Whole oats flour - 1/4 cup (I grind the whole oats on a blender into a fine powder)
  • Oil - 1 - 2 tbsp
  • salt - a pinch
  • water - as needed (I used less than 1/2 cup of water)

DIRECTION:

To Make the dough:

Sift and add all the flour in a large mixing bowl to that add salt and oil and start mixing. Slowly add water (add only couple of tbsp's at a time) and make dough ball out of it.

Knead the dough at least for 5 minutes, so that the dough gets real soft.

To Make Phulka's:

Make a small dough ball and make it round, thin and flat. then cook it in the stove top using a pan, if its a gas stove you can directly cook it on the flame.

Cook both sides evenly and if the dough is of proper consistency it will fluff up real nice.

Serve hot with any

Enjoy and Happy Cooking !! :)
