Ingredients:

  • Poha - 1 cup

  • Tomato - 1 (chopped)

  • Onion - 1/2 cup (Finely chopped)

  • Green peas - 1/2 cup

  • Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp

  • Lemon juice - 2 table spoon

  • Green chilli - 1 medium size|minced

  • Sugar - 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil - 2 tbsp

Masala Powders:

All the below masala powders 1/4 teaspoon (or according to taste preference)

  • Garam Masala

  • Black pepper powder

  • Cumin powder

  • Dry mango powder

  • Coriander powder

  • Turmeric powder

  • Hing

Direction

Wash the poha/aval with water and drain excess water.

Then add all the masala powders mentioned above to washed poha and gently with a fork or spoon mix it together and leave it on the counter.

When that is resting we shall prepare the gravy.

Add 1 tbsp oil to the heating pan, then once melted add onion and to that add pinch of salt to speed up the process.

‘Whenever Onion is fried it is better to add pinch of salt which helps the onion to lose it moisture content easily'

Once the onion turned pinkish golden color add ginger garlic paste, and fry till its raw smell is gone.

Then add chopped tomatoes, peas and green chilli and close the vessel with a lid. Leave it for 2 mins until the tomato and green peas are cooked to slender. Once it is cooked, add the masala poha to the gravy and stir for a min. If you feel the poha is too dry you can add 1 or 2 table spoon of water.

Finally add sugar, stir once, then after the stove is switched off add lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves and tomatoes.

Enjoy this delicious poha upma hot from the stove.
